New technologies strengthening education for primary school teachers in Kyrgyz Republic

USAID Okuu Keremet! project distributed around 2,000 tablets among its target schools and regional units of the Ministry of Education. The tablets are loaded with tools developed by the project such as a formative assessment application known as BaalooApp that enables teachers to checks students’ reading and math skills and an application to conduct classroom observation known as SabakApp which enables mentors to give feedback to teachers about how to improve instructional practices.

BaalooApp helps primary school teachers evaluate students’ reading and math skills. Based on a short test, the app generates feedback for the teacher about student progress and then offers teacher tailored suggestions, including additional materials, exercises, or areas of focus.

SabakApp is a user-friendly application that offers effective tools for mentors to conduct classroom observations and provide useful and constructive feedback to teachers. In November 2021 and 2022, Okuu Keremet! organized a series of trainings for more than 3,500 school administrators and mentors of regional education departments. The trainings focused on innovative approaches and technologies for mentoring teachers in schools.

Over 70,000 observations in primary school math and reading classes were conducted throughout the country in the past several years using SabakApp. The collected data also allowed the project to observe the evolution in teachers' instructional practices.
