Frequently asked questions.

Compatibility and technical requirements

  • For generic data collections, the minimum requirements are:

    • Touch screen.

    • Android OS [v. 8.0 or higher] Certain features such as scanner, image, video, and sound capture are available only from Android v9.0 onwards

    • HTML 5-capable browser con Android System WebView

    • Wi-Fi (b/g/n)

    • 64GB HDD

    • 4GB memoria RAM

    • 1.6 GHz or higher, multi-core processor (dual minimum)

    • 7 hours minimum battery life without internet connection

    • Ability to install third-party APKs enabled

  • Yes, Tangerine works from an APK file on Android and from the Chrome or Edge browser in offline mode when properly installed as a Browser PWA (Progressive Web App)

  • As an online version, the use of forms can be interpreted as accessing direct links. That option doesn't require the installation of an app and can be accessed from any device by simply opening the link. The offline version is used when we have an APK or PWA installed. Tangerine is optimized for APK and Browser/PWA modes.

  • That depends on the type of connection available and its speed, and also on the number of records pending synchronization and the size of the forms. For example, the results of 10 EGRA assessments, with a total size of 350k, using a stable 4G connection, will take about 5 seconds to synchronize

Managing Tests and Items

  • At this time, you can only set timers with grid and eftouch EF Touch items. For the rest, custom code could be made to enable timers by item or by evolution.

  • For grid and EF Touch items, you cannot change the times through code to reflect the group of students. You could make several items for each group and enable or disable them depending on the student (skip items with conditional logic)

If custom timers are used in the forms, they can be built in a way that allows for the change of time available according to the group/student.

Data processing and delivery of information

  • Yes, the "No Response" setting can be configured at the platform level and applied to each group in Tangerine (but it cannot be done per group). Optional item handling uses that setting. For required items, you can add a "No answer" option whose value is accessible directly from the form interface.

  • Results (rows) – a record/row is a single assessment or set of subtasks in TeachTangerine:Teach.

Item data (columns) – one or more columns correspond to the items (depending on the type of item, there may be more than one column per item) indicating whether the answer was selected and the numerical value of the answer.

  • By default, only the value of the response and the start and end date and time of the entire evaluation are included. Each section in the assessment also records its start time. From this you can deduce the time that the student has spent on each page of the evaluation. Other parameters could be coded with custom code. In the case of Teach, the percentage in each group of items, the total score and points obtained per section are coded.

Access Management

  • Tangerine, Tangerine:Teach and Tangerine: Coach are configured for use by survey takers, teachers and instructional coaches. The self-administered format for student-directed assessments is configured to allow for students or test administrators to entre a unique student ID or have the system generate one for each student.

  • Yes, it depends on the use of this data. They can be used in a drop-down list (region, school, classroom, etc.) or in Teach as a source of the group of students in the class, teachers, and schools

  • There are no roles according to the school administrative profile. There are roles per permission/action on the platform. By default, there are two: Administrator and Member. The Administrator can perform all actions in their group, and the members can only download csv results. New roles can be added per group with specific permissions.

Information Security

  • All access to data is password-protected, both on the server and on the device. Only authenticated and authorized users can access the data. On the server, each user is created manually by an authorized administrator. On the devices, each user creates their own access details and these are used to protect the information stored on the same device.

  • All storage options are available. Our service uses AWS cloud services, and we can offer other options according to the client’s needs. Those can be other cloud providers or local storage.

Analysis of results, generation of reports and feedback

  • Yes, we allow the creation of reports based on the data compiled on the platform in third-party systems such as PowerBi. There is no dashboard within the platform, but it could be developed (there is infrastructure on the platform for the provision of reports).

  • Tangerine is a data collection platform. All kinds of reporting and dashboard creation is normally done off-platform in PowerBi or other tools.

  • Export is offered in CSV format or direct connection to the database

  • It can be coded as needed. In Teach through the subtask-level interface.

  • It can be custom coded according to the user's need.

  • In Teach, teachers have access to classroom reports by task or by subject showing students and their achievements in ranges by percentage obtained. You can also see the total performance per student.

  • Teach also displays attendance, continuous assessment, and behavior reports.

  • Tangerine allows you to track learning by consistently identifying students across successive applications. This allows you to compare results over time and observe individual or group progress. To do this, it is necessary to maintain consistency in the student identifiers and configure the data structure appropriately. Longitudinal reports should be generated outside of the platform using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or other analytics systems.

Accessibility

  • The platform allows the inclusion of videos showing questions with sign language, the recording of answers with video using sign language. There is also the option of including audio recordings, to read out the questions and their answers and the option to record audio as an answer. For all students with disabilities, assessments should be prepared according to the needs of the students. There is no automatic conversion of a generic assessment into an inclusive one.

  • The creation of inclusive assessments is possible and achieved by adapting the assessment for the needs of the student.

Integration with other platforms or systems

  • Yes, it is possible to integrate the data with EMIS. This is a separate work effort where the participation of experts from the Organization/Education Department has a central role and directs the process.

  • There are APIs for managing data in its raw format. We also have tools to facilitate the transformation or enable the conversion of data to MySQL where you can use standard SQL statements in conjunction with your existing ETL (Extract Transform Load) tools.

User Experience & Support

  • The need for training depends on the technical level of the user. We always recommend a one-hour training session or the distribution of a reference sheet that includes a step-by-step guide. The app can include multimedia instructions that show the basic steps for using it.

  • Yes, we have error messages and some alerts.

  • Yes, during CET (Central European Time) working hours.

  • It depends on the customizations. Some things yes, others no. Tangerine is highly configurable and allows you to customize both the content and some functionalities, including adaptive branching, integration with curriculum standards, and multilingual support. Some more specific customizations may require additional development, depending on the technical and operational requirements of the requesting entity.
