Delivered offline through Tangerine®, it enables children to complete assessment tasks independently using embedded audio instructions and interactive on-screen activities, while adults oversee implementation and data management.

Developed Through Partnership and Innovation
In 2021, Imagine Worldwide (IWW) and RTI International, with support from the Jacobs Foundation, developed the first SA-EGRMA to expand access to foundational learning assessment through a scalable, tablet-based, self-administered approach. By adapting EGRA and EGMA for tablet-based delivery, they created a solution that helps organizations measure learning outcomes more efficiently while reducing implementation costs and complexity.
SA-EGRMA has been validated in English (Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Kenya), Chichewa (Malawi), and Kiswahili (Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar).
All versions are open-source and free to use. While validated instruments are available for immediate deployment, adaptations for new languages, contexts, or learner populations require careful design, testing, and validation to ensure the assessment continues to produce reliable and meaningful results.
